Evelyn Meador Library

Evelyn Meador Library

New construction of a library to replace existing library destroyed by Hurricane Ike. Construction consists of structural steel, with a built-up roof, concrete paving, masonry and storefront glass exterior located within a large public park complex. The LEED Silver project used advanced storm water management, ideal building orientation, and deep roof overhangs to reduce the amount of solar heat gain through the glass. The advanced storm water management included 126,018 square feet of newly constructed wetlands, rain gardens and bioswales. The generous amounts of glass in the building provide daylight and expansive views of the park in which the building is sited. This innovative design provides an open, airy feel for the dynamic learning center.
